The 21st Century Classroom by Grade 5S

It is the 21st century and the Grade 5s decided that it is time for change. Today’s girls need to be equipped with the skills of critical thinking, creativity, collaboration and communication and Mrs Stewart decided that what better way to develop these skills than to present them with a real-life task.

Mrs Stewart asked her Grade 5 class to redesign their classroom to create a 21st century learning space that stimulates and promotes learning. After much discussion, research and collaboration a plan was created.

The girls divided into groups and split the tasks up, giving each girl a responsibility according to their interest and strengths.

The real buzz began as they created different areas and decided on the equipment needed in each area. The designated areas were:
* chill/reading zone,
* creative corner,
* collaborative zone and
* study zone.

A great deal of learning and fun was had by all the girls and they now get to enjoy the results of their hard work.

Early in the morning you can see the girls teaching each other various Maths skills on the table top whiteboard, writing motivational quotes on the various chalkboard surfaces or simply relaxing in the chill zone.

Consumer Studies Olympiad - Top 100 Places
